Position: President
Leticia Fernández is a fourth year double majoring in Applied Mathematics and Spanish with a focus in Statistics. She would like to pursue a career in Soccer Sports Data Analysis and continue her involvement in STEM outreach programs whose missions are to advocate for underrepresented communities and women pursuing a career in STEM. Her passions include advocating for women pursuing a career in STEM, specifically mathematics, raising awareness of and working to bridge the racial gap in STEM education, and improving representation for minority students throughout the STEM academic landscape. One of Leticia’s goals is to be able to give back to her community and continue to make a difference in the lives of her community.

Johan is a 4th year pure math major. He decided to choose pure math because it gives him the freedom to explore any interest he may have in math. He enjoys learning about programming in his spare time and has started to learn about data structures and algorithms. He has also started to learn more about the stock market and crypto currencies as he wants to make money.

Owen Lin is a 3nd-year junior who is double majoring in Mathematics and Quantitative Economics. He is pursuing a concentration in data science and is planning to apply to grad school after college. He wants to create an inclusive community among the math majors and he is interested in exploring answers to the question: "where can a degree of math lead you?"

Johnson Dinh is a fourth year majoring in Applied and Computational Mathematics. As a transfer student, he plans on furthering his academic career by taking on a Computer Science minor or double majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science, en route to graduate school. Johnson devotes his academic time learning the material within the subjects of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science as he hopes to later on make a significant impact in the field of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. He also enjoys competitive programming as it helps him practice his knowledge and skills on data structures and advanced algorithms. Johnson wants to take the next step forward in growing the Mathematics community at UCI by being an advocate for those who wish to pursue a major/career revolving around the world of Mathematics.

Advisor
Bob Pelayo was born and raised in Los Angeles. As a proud Southern California native, he stayed in the area for his undergraduate degree in Math and Psychology (Occidental College) and his PhD in Math (CalTech). After spending 11 years on the Big Island of Hawaii as a math professor at UH Hilo, Bob returned to Southern California as teaching faculty at UC Irvine. Since 2019, Bob has been the Data Science advisor for the Math department and works on several initiatives aimed at improving the student experience at UCI, especially for underrepresented students.
